Fallow Bucks

Bucks carry hard antler from March until October.

Fallow deer were introduced to New Zealand in the late 1800’s, and today they are widespread throughout the North and South Islands. Fallow Bucks are truly one of New Zealand’s most prized hunting trophies as they provide hunters with the perfect mix of stalking challenge and thrill, often within bush clad and/or open shrub hill country. There really is nothing like listening to a rutting Fallow Buck “croaking” (a term often used to describe the unique sound of a Fallow Buck during the rut), which when in full swing provides for a vocal species that’s aggressive nature is only matched by its cunningness.

The Fallow rut period is April/May and Big River Safaris is able to offer some of the best free range hunting on private land in New Zealand.
